How to set up and use the automation for handling failed payments in Stripe, including integrating with Slack and email notifications:

1. Accessing the Automation:

  • Use the share link provided below the video, paste it into Google Chrome, and press enter to load the specific automation.

2. Setting Up the Trigger:

  • The automation is configured to trigger on failed payments in Stripe.
  • If you don’t use Stripe, it's recommended to start using it as your payment processor.
  • Select "failed payments" as the trigger and connect your Stripe account by following the steps provided.

3. Testing the Trigger:

  • After connecting your account, test the trigger to ensure it works.
  • If your Stripe account has no failed payments, test data will be used instead.

4. Notification Setup:

  • Slack Integration:
    • Use Slack for internal communications and notifications.
    • Create a specific channel (e.g., "failed payments" or "finance and accounting") to receive notifications.
    • Set the action to "send a channel message" in Slack.
    • Customize the message with relevant information such as customer name, email, and payment amount.
  • Email Notifications:
    • Alternatively, set up email notifications.
    • Configure the email with a subject like "Failed Payment" and include relevant details in the body such as customer name, email, and amount.
    • Customize the email content using test data pulled from Stripe.

5. Configuring Message Content:

  • Include critical information like customer name, email, amount, and reason for the failed payment (e.g., insufficient funds).
  • Use emojis to signify urgency or importance (e.g., a siren emoji for urgent payment issues).

6. Implementing in Slack:

  • Follow similar steps to configure Slack messages.
  • Use emojis and structured messages to ensure clarity and prioritize attention.

7. Creating a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP):

  • Develop a clear SOP for handling failed payments.
  • Train new staff members on this system to ensure they understand and can efficiently manage notifications and actions for failed payments.

By integrating Stripe with Slack or email notifications and creating an SOP, you can streamline the process of managing failed payments, ensuring timely and organized responses.
